29 Apr Pupils enjoy unforgettable ski trip to French Alps
On 2nd March 2019, 35 students accompanied by 5 staff members embarked on what turned out to be an unforgettable ski trip to the French Alps.
The group travelled by air to Italy, where the journey progressed onward to their final destination and home for the week, Ski Resort Serre Chevelier, France. Upon arrival, students were greeted by a very welcoming party of staff, where they were quickly shown their rooms for the week, provided with a three course sit down meal, and fitted out with their much needed ski equipment. That evening, students explored the hotel and got to grips with the exciting games room and common area.
Over the next few days, students attacked their first few days skiing head on, successfully getting to grips with the dreaded initial ‘snowplough’ skiing technique. The first few days learning to ski is typically the hardest, and all students displayed outrageous levels of resilience and courage.
The evenings were fun filled, with different kinds of entertainment to choose from. There was bowling in the local town, snail and frog tasting, light and firework displays over the mountains, town treasure trails, and to finish off, an epic disco, where staff members put the students to shame, throwing some questionable shapes.
Over the week, students progressed quickly on the slopes. The vast range of ski runs available within the Serre Chevelier Ski Resort gave them ample opportunity to practise and experience different skiing conditions. Students showed outstanding levels of resilience to allow themselves to improve their skiing technique, despite falling frequently! By the final day, all students had successfully skied down a 3K decent to the local village. The week was finished off by the ski school awarding our students with medals.
Hopefully our pupils are able to utilise and progress their skiing further if they get the opportunity in the future. What an amazing week for all staff and students involved!
