04 Jul Lots of fun for primary pupils on Induction Day
On Wednesday 3rd July, we hosted our annual Induction Day/Evening for Year 6 pupils who plan to join Whitley Academy in September. This can be both an exciting and daunting day for children, so we endeavour to make it as enjoyable and as smooth as possible for every child.
The children started the day with a treasure hunt around the school, visiting key areas and facilities that they will be using in September. They then focused on a STEM activity, looking at using design ideas to protect an egg from ‘the drop’. Some very good designs were produced on the day, with pupils showing excellent team building skills, but there were also designs which needed tweaking! Later in the day, children made some ‘getting to know you’ bunting, which they shared with their class to find out something they didn’t know about their classmates.
We hope these activities fostered the children’s interest in core subject work, enabled them to make some new friends, as well as becoming familiar with Opening Minds staff members and their expectations as quickly as possible.
In the evening, a presentation was made to parents about key aspects of the school, and we had some very good feedback. We hope all our new pupils are looking forward to starting in September!
