Students will explore some of the key areas within the sector, including accommodation, tourism development and promotion, transport and visitor attractions. Students will investigate the importance of the travel and tourism sector to the UK, and investigate different types of customer and UK destinations. Students will also have the opportunity to study international travel and tourism.
Students will study the following three mandatory units, covering the underpinning knowledge and practical skills required to work in the industry:
- UK travel and tourism sector (Written exam – 1 hour)
- UK travel and tourism destinations (Assignment based coursework)
- The travel and tourism customer experience (Assignment based coursework)
Students will also study one further unit from two optional units, covering more specific aspects of the global travel and tourism sector:
- International travel and tourism destinations (Assignment based coursework)
- Factors affecting worldwide travel and tourism (Assignment based coursework)
The Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Travel and Tourism provides the knowledge, understanding and skills for Level 2 learners to progress to:
- Other Level 2 vocational qualifications
- Level 3 vocational qualifications, such as BTEC Nationals, specifically the Pearson BTEC Level 3 in Travel and Tourism
