Whitley Academy ensures that “all students do their best” through delivering a relevant, challenging and exciting curriculum. We organise our staff, resources and lessons carefully to deliver academic success. 

The English Department is committed to equipping students with ‘Language for Life’. We believe that learners should be able to communicate effectively and it is our aim to ensure that all students leave with the skills they need for reading, writing and speaking and listening beyond the classroom, as well as a lasting curiosity, interest and enjoyment in English.

The Mathematics department aims to deliver excellent mathematical provision for all pupils by addressing individual needs.

Whitley Academy is proudly leading the way in promoting an innovative curriculum delivery which supports the statutory aims of the national Curriculum – Opening Minds. We deliver the content of the KS3 curriculum  in a creative and flexible way that prepares students for the 21st Century. This will meet all traditional subject requirements but challenges and extends all students through the development of transferable competences and skills.

We offer French and Spanish across KS3 and KS4; with KS5 French currently run at a local consortium school. We have a variety of resources available for both languages which cover all of the required skill areas.

Our PE department is 7 strong, with varying degrees of experience and lots of responsibilities elsewhere at school. Alongside the team, our outstanding facilities allow us to drive standards in PE allowing students to be the best they can be.

The world in which we live is likely to change more in the next 50 years than it has ever done before.  Geography and History explain how and why, and helps to prepare you for those changes.

A choice of Health and Social Care and Sociology is available.

As part of the IT / iMedia curriculum, pupils at Whitley Academy are taught a range of computing and digital media skills.

The qualification provides an engaging and stimulating introduction to the world of travel and tourism, giving students the opportunity to develop knowledge and technical skills in a practical learning environment.

In PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) lessons, students have the opportunity to develop our whole school values whilst discussing themselves and the world around them.

Food Science and Preparation equips learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to cook and apply principles of food science, nutrition, and healthy eating.

Business Studies gives you the opportunity to learn about the many areas of business and how these are applied in real-life situations. You will be able study how small, national and international businesses are operated and explore the basics of starting up a new business venture. You will also gain a good understanding of enterprise, human resources, marketing and finance. Choose Business Studies as an option and you will have the chance to develop business skills in a vocational context that you can apply to any career.
