19 Aug First ever student from Whitley Academy successful with Cambridge application
Whitley Academy are delighted to discover that our Y13 Head Girl, Katie, has been accepted to read Economics at Cambridge. Katie becomes the first ever student from Whitley Academy to be successful with a Cambridge application.
Since achieving 4 A* grades in Maths, Further Maths, Geography and Economics, Katie has been in discussion with Cambridge University with regards to an offer.
It’s been an exciting and overwhelming week for Katie, who on Thursday was all set to attend the London School of Economics. However, due to her academic excellence, Katie has now received and accepted an offer from Murray Edwards College to read Economics.
This has been a rigorous journey and process for Katie, which included attending summer schools, participating in residentials, work experience placements, sitting entrance examinations and completing a thorough 2 day interview in February 2019. This will be so satisfying for Katie, as she was originally unsuccessful with her initial application.
However Cambridge clearly recognised Katie’s academic capacity and retained her on a shortlist of alternative candidates as replacements for students who did not meet their requirements and offer conditions.
Head of Post 16 Mr Edwards said, “I was delighted and thrilled to received the news from Katie that she has received and accepted this offer from Cambridge. Katie has worked tirelessly to strive to be the very best that she can be. This thoroughly deserved offer is recognition for 2 years worth of exceptionally hard work. It’s been obvious to me that Cambridge has been Katie’s dream and it’s brilliant that all of her teachers have helped her achieve this. I know Katie is very grateful for all the help, guidance and support she has received during her time at Whitley Academy. I hope she can be an example to future students for years to come.”
All of the staff at Whitley Academy wish Katie every success with her future studies.
