15 Jun A Visit from Shenzen, China
Here’s a snapshot of a visiting group of teachers from Shenzen, China, who came to see our school during the spring and summer terms. Each group spent 2 days at the school, as part of a 9 week study placement at Warwick University to learn about the British education system and how we teach at Whitley Academy.
They were welcomed into our lessons to experience a variety of classes, including subjects that are commonly taught across the world, such as English, Maths, and Modern Language, as well as subjects that are less commonly taught outside the UK, such as PSHE and the competence-based lessons of our Opening Minds curriculum. While the visitors taught a range of subjects back home, they all joined in to teach our year 7s and year 8s some Mandarin and about Chinese culture.
Our guests told us about some of the experiences that they would take back with them to apply in their own school, such as encouraging pupils’ independence, the use of group discussions and the displays in classrooms, which not only brighten the classrooms but are also a useful learning resource.
