Ian was born on 18 April 1945 in Coventry. He was educated at Whitley Abbey School, Coventry; Keele University (BA in Modern History, Economics and Politics, with first year exams in Maths and Physics) and at the LSE (Ford Foundation research scholar).
Ian contacted the school to say: "I was just updating my website and checked on Whitley Abbey School- and am delighted to see the rebirth as Whitley Academy. I was a pupil from 1956-63 and it gave me a wonderful set of opportunities in life.
I joined the school in its first year in its new format. It was an exciting place mostly - though the Headmaster was a disciplinarian. It was very much a sporting school and I took part in Coventry and Warwickshire school rugger and athletics teams at each age level.
Eventually I concentrated too on studies and in a strong 6th Form group I gained great A level results and went off to Keele University. Happy days!
Here is a grainy photo of some of the 6th Form. I am in the middle with fair hair. "
Good luck to you all..
