The Mathematics department aims to deliver excellent mathematical provision for all pupils by addressing individual needs. We believe in promoting an understanding of Mathematical concepts; proficiency in the functional Mathematics required for everyday life, employment and future study; development of transferable learning skills such as reasoning, communication and logical problem solving; and appreciation of the creativity, versatility and beauty of Mathematics.
In year 7 we work closely in collaboration with Opening Minds to deliver Mathematical understanding through a series of themed projects looking at: Statistics; Mathematics in the world around us; Mathematics and Magic; Life in 3D; and Mathematics of a Theme Park. During year 8 students develop the Mathematics they have experienced in year 7 more formally focusing on number, algebra, data and geometry skills, while still building on the OM competencies.
In year 9, lessons are tailored to the individual needs of our students as they prepare for studying the new AQA GCSE syllabus in years 10 and 11.

We have close links with the Mathematics departments of a number of local schools through the Coventry Mathematics Subject Network and with Warwick University, allowing sharing of good practice, and participation in research projects. We also regularly enter our pupils in the UKMT Mathematics individual and team competitions with considerable success.
