EBacc

English Baccalaureate

In response to the government introduction of an ‘English Baccalaureate’ measure of student achievement; we have adjusted our key stage 4 curriculum to provide students with the opportunity to achieve this measure.

The English Baccalaureate is achieved if students gain a GCSE grade C or above in all of the following:
  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • History or Geography
  • A modern foreign language
Students at Whitley Academy have the opportunity to study the courses required at GCSE from year 9 onwards.

We have also maintained the provision of subjects outside the ‘Ebacc’ (Art, Business, ICT, Music, PE, Catering and Graphics) at key stage 4, so our students have a broad choice.

Great Opportunities

"I really like this school because of all the extra support that the teachers give you."

In September 2010 an OFSTED inspection judged that, "teachers have excellent subject knowledge and their enthusiasm helps convey their love of a subject to students".
