Whitley Academy Post 16 students are role models to the rest of the school, and are encouraged to support the school where possible. They fulfil this responsibility in a variety of ways, such as volunteering in lessons, being reading mentors, peer mentors and science technicians. A number of Post 16 students are also involved in working in local primary schools, care homes and other events in the wider community.
As well as the responsibilities that all Post 16 students fulfil, there is also the chance for them to take on an extra role by to applying for one of four positions – Head Boy / Girl, Deputy Head Boy / Girl, and Chair of School Council.
The reason I am involved with Student Leadership is to increase my input into school life and to have the opportunity to voice both mine, and other student's opinions. Within school, I am currently heavily involved with School Council and also with Year 7, to help out in any way that I can. Due to my role in leadership, I attend various events within school along with my peers, such as Open Evenings to enhance my participation and also to gain experience outside of my academic life.
